We bought a new house!! Isn’t she adorable?? I know, you are probably thinking “didn’t you just move to Phoenix last year?”. The answer is yes, we did!! However, the desires of our hearts have changed during the pandemic and we realized more than ever that we just wanted our whole family together again. Our oldest daughters live in Denver and own a thriving business there. There was nothing tying us to PHX or making us stay (my husband and I both work from home) so it made sense for us to go to where they are and have the whole family in one place!
If you keep up with me on IG @aprilcolleen then you know that this is coming home for me. I was born and raised in Denver and, after a decade of moving around for my husband’s job, I am finally back home! And I am SO HAPPY!
It all happened so fast! We came out to Denver to visit and look around, thinking that it would be nice to be back some day. We fell in love with a spec home, put an offer on it and drove home. In a matter of 4 weeks we: signed a contract on the new house, got our financing in place (and all of the 20,000 documents you have to provide), completed the projects in our home that needed to be completed (because you know I only seem to ever complete them to 90%), got the house ready to sell, listed the house, sold it in 4 days, packed the whole house up (we settled in quite nicely), packed 4 PODS in 115 degree heat, drove to Colorado with 3 kids, two dogs and three overpacked cars, stayed in an Airbnb for a week, moved into the new home and closed on the house in PHX. Am I tired? YES!! But it was SO worth it!
I knew we made the right decision when we closed on our new home in Denver and all the kids, along with my BFF, came over and started unpacking boxes that very day. Like they were so excited that we were in Denver they couldn’t wait for us to settle in! It made my heart so full. God works in crazy ways. If you told me in 2020 that we would be moving to Denver I would have laughed. (Of course, if you told me ANY of the things that have happened in 2020 would have happened I would have laughed.) After all, moving is exhausting and I JUST got moved in to our home in PHX!! But God is so good and I am truly happy!
I believe that when God has his hand in something and it is meant to be for your life, everything falls into place. The way this was orchestrated, and the way everything just fell perfectly into place, makes me believe that the door was opened and all we had to do was go through it. Sure, it took a lot of work and it was exhausting making it all happen. I asked God for the strength to get through each day and was a little overwhelmed at times, but I got through it. God provided my mom and my kids to help. My husband’s cancer has limited his ability to help with his body, but God gave him words of encouragement and the ability to do meal fetching, which were so helpful.
Moving is hard! This is my 8th move in 10 years (find all my moving tips here) and I AM DONE!!! My lips are chapped, my hands hurt and I am totally spent with exhaustion. But, we plan to be here for the rest of our lives so knowing that kept me going. Our older daughters will each be living 10 minutes from us, our son is thriving and just moved into his first apartment for college and our youngest has already adjusted to her new school and is making some really great friends.
LIFE IS GOOD! Do you live near your family? Have you moved recently? I would love to hear about how that went for you. Did you use any of my moving tips?
Have a great weekend, friends!
