New home building and resale is happening at a rapid rate right now and so many of you may be building or buying the home of your dreams. For a long time the trend that has been commonly found in newer built homes is having a large open concept space. If you are building or buying right now, chances are that you are getting into a home that includes that large, open space and you may be looking for some amazing oversized pendant lights to help complete it.
‘Open Concept’ was a trend that began in the 1970s and has not only risen in popularity in recent years, but it seems to be the mainstay of what many people look for in a home. Having to decorate a large room that encompasses spaces that need to be many things to the people living in it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming. However, if decorated right, you can have many functions within the space and have it feel cohesive and comfortable.
The most used space within open concept is the kitchen. Kitchens are the heart of the home and can be defined and designated by the lighting that is in it. If your kitchen is incorporated into that large open space, then using large pendants over your island will help define the space and also create some warmth. Using glass with keep it airy and open, using shades with help to soften the lighting and the hard surfaces.
What if you don’t have an open concept? That’s ok. In older homes you may not have the opportunity to have several large pendants, but you can still make a big statement in your space by having one large pendant – like a chandelier- over your island. No matter what space you are trying to fill, I have rounded up some amazing oversized pendant lights that you are sure to love! You can see the three that I was debating installing in my kitchen here.
