Good morning from a (finally) sunny Saturday morning here in Colorado. The weather has been so chilly. Wearing a sweater in June? No thank you. I know we need the moisture and we have such fire danger, but in some little way I feel robbed of some of our summer. Two weeks ago we had 10″ of snow!
I have truly missed this place and you. If you have been wondering where I have been, my husband got really sick and, although my love of sharing here has never waned, I just had to take the last few months to get him and our family through it. We were running out of options and his cancer had grown. We almost lost him and it was terrifying. As a mom, the strength you have to have for everyone during something like this is just exhausting. I don’t talk about it much, but you can read about the first time we were in the hospital 6 years ago, when this all began. It has been a long, long road, friends.
The (almost) last option he had was to have a surgery that has been literally life saving. After a month of recuperation and recovery he is doing SO well and it sure is fun to have him back! We are hopeful and prayerful that this will be a longterm solution.
With a renewed energy we have been having so much fun doing projects around the house together. Things that I wouldn’t be able to do on my own. Like the fence we built last weekend. And although his strength isn’t completely restored, the banter is still fun as ever. We actually built a fence in 2 days with the help of our son. And it was really hard. Details including how we saved thousands of dollars and how we DIYed the whole thing coming soon in a post this week.
It was the perfect way to spend our Memorial Day weekend! I hope you had a fun weekend, too. Is it weird that I think the best way to spend a 3 day weekend is to do a huge project from beginning to end? OK, I still have to paint it, but it is built!
We bought a tree! It may seem silly to you, but it took us an entire day to decide on a pot and a tree. The weekend it snowed 10″ we headed out to the pottery shop in downtown Denver and then off to a nursery to find the perfect tree. Nobody was at either place due to the weather so it made it a very relaxed day. We looked at every pot and every tree and decided on these. This is a Ficus and is literally life giving.
We bought the pot with the perfect coloring, finally chose a tree after looking and comparing about 25 and then I chose 4 sheets of Spanish Moss to cover the top of the pot with. She stands at about 7′ right now. Yes, she – her name is Olivia. And we love her!
I will finally be resuming my series on building a basement bathroom from scratch!! ICYMI, I started a 10 part series on how I finished the bathroom in our basement from bare flooring and studs to a beautiful space for our kids and guests. I can’t wait to continue taking you on this journey. Coming this week? Waterproofing the shower and a big mistake I made!
