Let me guess. You have an old piece of furniture and you want to make it look better? Here are 5 ways to transform a piece of furniture to make it look like new!
1 // Paint it!
The power of paint is amazing! You can take a piece and magically make it look like new with just paint!
2 // Add wallpaper to a drawer front, inside a drawer or to the inside of the furniture piece!
Did you know you can add wallpaper to a piece of furniture? It makes such a bold statement and adds so much interest to a piece. There are so many choices of paintable wallpaper, peel and stick or the traditional paste method paper.
See what an impact that has? Just a little paint and some wallpaper and the piece looks so different.

3 // Add or remove moulding detail!
See this dental moulding (looks like a bunch of teeth)? If you didn’t like these little details you can remove them, updating your piece. For details like panel moulding on the side or front of the piece, consider filling in the panels with wood filler and sanding smooth. That will make it a little less country/cottage and a little more modern and current.
That will for sure transform your furniture!
4 // Add new hardware! Removing the old hardware is easy and adding new hardware is life-giving. Your furniture will thank you.
Look at what a difference changing out the hardware and some paint makes. This is the same piece of furniture with paint and new hardware.
Doing that is SO easy! You can check out how I made over this hutch here!
5 // Here is my favorite: Combine two pieces together to make one new piece!
I had two media cabinets and two bookcases. They were two different colors, but similar in style. I combined them together and painted them the same color and WOW!! Look at that!
Let your imagination run wild!
You don’t need to run out and buy something new. You can find what you want in your own home, on FB marketplace, Craigslist or the thrift store. There are so many ways to update a piece of furniture and make it look new. You just have to think outside the box!
